Veneers
Veneering a tooth means to cover its facial, or front,
surface. It is actually very similar to placing acrylic
fingernails on top of natural nails.
Veneers are used to enhance the shape and color of
teeth. Veneers can also cover up significant stains
such as tetracycline. As we age, wear of the front
teeth may effect the aesthetics of our smile. Porcelain
veneers may be used to lengthen worn or short teeth
and restore the smile of older patients.
Typically, the porcelain veneers should last about
15 years. However, with proper care and maintenance
they can last longer. Porcelain veneers resist staining,
reflect light and are among the strongest and most
natural looking restoration available.

This
patient presented with some extreme smile design
challenges. Ideally, this patient would have been
treated orthodontically prior to placement of
the porcelain veneers. The patient, however, opted
for "instant orthodontics". Precontouring
of the teeth was accomplished prior to placing
any depth cuts to ensure that the arch alignment
would be as close to ideal as possible. In addition
to gingivital recontouring. Empress veneers were
placed on teeth #4-13 to achieve this dramatic
result.
